First off. The half mask was included. The mask is costructed of a thick and hard plastic material. The helmet is held on the head by two pieces of a thick elastic material that's locked together with velcro. If the costumes arrives without the helmet, return the costume. He loves the costume. It's not Halloween yet but he's warn it a few times. Seems to be well constructed. The costume is constructed of a thin nylon type material as all Halloween costumes in this price range would be. It appears the costume runs small. My son is 8. Average height and weight for an 8 year old. I bought the large size knowing costumes tend to run small. It's a large but the costume fits just right with just a little extra room to have a pant and shirt underneath. The legs are a little long but it is a large. I beleive a medium would have been tight even though it's advertised for 8 year old. If your 8 year old is smaller than the average 8 year old then I think the medium will be fine. Otherwise, go with the large. (Yes, daughter. She is a tomboy). I have Amazon Prime so go the "free" 2 day shipping. I was slightly concerned due to the other reviews stating they did not receive the helmet along with their costume. Due to a combination of funding (or lack thereof) and the horrid habit of procrastination, I was forced to take the gamble of ordering the costume super close to the day of Halloween. The package arrived as expected, two days before. Holding my breath upon opening, praying that the helmet was there and low and behold....IT WAS IN THE PACKAGING! WOO! I ordered the size 7-8 youth and it fit my petite 9 year old perfectly! The helmet is a very high quality to which my daughter was ecstatic. The helmet a half helmet made of a very nice, heavy-duty plastic and has a thick elastic band with Velcro around the back to adjust fit. The material of the suit was very nice, high quality with "muscles". My daughter said "Look, mom! I have abs!". There is only one little drawback......the helmet really wasn't meant to be worn in the dark. =( We went out at dusk (lets face it...trick-or-treating is the best when its spooky and dark and your glow sticks are visible!) and she was already mentioning that it was difficult to see. Sadly, once it was fully dark she would have to lift the mask up when she was walking from house to house and bring it back down when she was nearly to the stairs of each house. That was a bummer, but it was kind of worth it for how awesome the costume was. I did see some neato YouTube videos of people adding LED lights to the helmet to add extra realism which may possibly help with the vision issue. Pretty typical quality for this type of dress up clothes for boys. He’s a big for his age 5 year old and typically wears a size 8 pants and such. I ordered the 10/12 and it still fits really well. Just a bit long in the legs but that’s fine with us.The optional gloves and helmet are a perfect match and really completes the look. The only thing we didn’t get was the optimal shoe covers because our son has several pairs of boots that match pretty well.I think i ordered this one through Rubies costumes here on Amazon and I’d do it again. After several months and lots of wear the costume is holding up well.
