That's why this tool can be used to deflate a tire without removing the valve core or pushing on the Schrader valve with a small screwdriver (takes forever) to deflate the tire for purposes of removal from the rim. A Schrader valve doesn't know if it's connected to an older non-TPMS or a newer TPMS tire valve LOL. **Q: is this hands free automatic or you must hold it down? for the ones that are.. does it damage to leave a tire valve spring compressed for days?** A: It screws on and then you can let go while it deflates. I would not recommend leaving them attached for more than 10-15 minutes at a time. That would weaken the spring in the valve. I pretty much only use them when servicing tires with TPMS sensors and am concerned about damaging the sensor by removing the valve core - so if I were to damage the valve spring, I'd end up needing a new sensor anyway. Cheap rubber valve stems just get replaced if the core won't come out easily. **Q: What metal is this made from?** A: Steel, does get a little surface rust over time. **Q: Will this deflate tires all the way to 0 PSI?** A: Yes absolutely! I'm an aircraft mechanic and need to deflate tires before removing from an aircraft. Some are up to 230 psi so using the method of removing the valve stem gets dangerous as it can shoot out of there with a lot of force! I now use these to deflate to zero before wheel removal and also at home I have a tire machine for autos. I use them to get all the air out before breaking the bead of the tire. Wish I had these years ago!!!
