Of course, expiration dates on alkalines are no guarantee that they will not leak sooner so I replace regardless of expiration date. The 87V MAX operates just fine on Energizer Ultimate Lithiums despite an embossed instance on the back cover that Duracells must be used. The rear cover seems to sit a little higher over the battery compartment so waterproof integrity might be an issue.
