Do not use it in a regular oven. Use it to wrap sandwiches in a lunch box, or to portion meat and wrap it for freezing, or similar applications. **Q: Is the wax petroleum based or soy based?** A: Paraffin, which by definition is basically petroleum based. **Q: Does this work for lining a baking pan?** A: Wax paper was used a lot when I was growing up, but I was born in 1954. Younger people are likely not as familiar with it because it’s not used as much these days. It’s not like parchment paper, which is likely what you are looking for. Wax paper has a thin coating of wax on it, and therefore cannot be exposed to oven heat. **Q: is this compostable?** A: To tell you the truth I'm not sure. I never looked at the box to see what kind of paraffin was being used. But if its any kind of petroleum based paraffin the answer is no.
