I have found that the spray works better on the carpet in our house than directly on sheets or pillow cases--the "lightly spray" thing doesn't always work out well. But it does dry on all fabrics without visible staining or effecting non-colorfast materials, even if you do overspray. I really like the fact it is entirely pet safe--my cats have had no reactions to it. I also used an ounce of the laundry additive in my steam cleaner when I steam cleaned my carpets, just to try it out--it didn't cause any staining or color change that way either.
