Just make sure you have the right size screwdriver to remove the bottom cover and two spots inside holding the cable in. I had initially read that you needed a #0 Phillips 2-1/2" screwdriver, but I ended up needing something smaller than that (picked up a 6 pack small screwdriver Husky package at Lowes that had one that was perfect for around $6). Otherwise you don't have to be an expert technician to do this - I work for a computer company but I'm no where near being an actual technician. I'd be willing to be that the vast majority of people who see the terrifying "flashing folder with a question mark" when starting up their mac have either a bad hard drive or a bad hard drive cable. Went to the local store thinking that a replacement hard drive was in order and my Mac would not recognize it either. After an hour of internet searching, found that this particular cable, which connects the hard drive to the motherboard, has been troublesome in the 2011/2012 Macbook Pro lineup. I'm not much of a technical expert, but the repair of my hard drive cable on my 2012 MacBook Pro was a breeze (using Ifixit.com's helpful website) - with this $25 cable and a $6 set of mini-screwdrivers, I saved around $200 in unnecessary diagnostics and labor from the computer store. In addition to this cable, I decided to keep the new solid state hard drive I picked up, and now my laptop is BLAZING fast. I can't believe the performance enhancement moving from a traditional disk drive to a solid state drive. Thanks for the great product! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ but it's close enough to function and the drive is still pretty secure without the clip *by D***D on Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2015* Apple store couldn't figure out what was wrong with the laptop, dismissed my idea that it was the SATA cable. Well, it was. This fixed it.
