## Description

desertcart.com: KA-BAR Dog's Head Utility Fixed Blade Knife 7" Clip Point 1095 Cro‑Van Black Blade with Stacked Leather Handle and Sheath : Sports & Outdoors

Review: A beautiful, comfortable knife, with expected KA-BAR quality - Though it has been mentioned many times, this knife is essentially the same as the original KA-BAR Marine fighting knife, except it has a wider pommel and crossguard. It also has the "Dog's Head" symbol stamped on the knife and sheath instead of "USMC," which particularly appealed to me because I am not a military member, and do not feel I should be carrying a symbol for a service branch I do not belong to. Also, I've read rumors that KA-BAR knives stamped with the Dog's Head eventually become more collectible and valuable, though I can't verify that. The knife has all the good features you will find in any similar KA-BAR: polished leather washer handle with an oval shape for more comfortable grip, made of sturdy 1095 steel, and with a perfectly-finished, evenly-ground blade that is razor sharp right out of the box. The wider pommel of the Dog's Head appealed to me, because I very often use the pommel of my knives to hammer on things, and this provides a much wider area to do so. The longer crossguard is also nice, because it gives you a lot of security to prevent your hand from slipping onto the blade. As with any product made of leather, no two will be the same. My handle and sheath have many more "dark lines" than the ones in the picture do, though I actually think this gives it a really appealing pattern and makes it look unique and cool. I used mink oil on the handle and sheath, then applied a few very light coatings of beeswax. The handle is already very well treated, but the oil and beeswax darkened the sheath a bit and gave it really cool color and smooth feel. The knife is made in the US; the sheath is made in Mexico, but appears to be of very high quality. Mexico makes very nice leather products if quality control is good; my family has been buying great leather items out of there for years. The sheath is both sewn and riveted, making it very sturdy, and it fits the knife very well. Overall, this is a great knife for either collection/display or everyday use. Not sure if I'm allowed to post links here, so Google "KA-BAR Dog's Head review": the second listing (right below the official KA-BAR website) is a great chronicle by a man who used the knife for all sorts of bushcraft tasks over a period of months, and a much better guide for this knife than I could have written. *5 out of 5 stars*
Review: Best knife I've ever had. - Have had one for 3-4 years. It's a great knife. Built well for balance/pressure. You're not wasting energy if you keep it in good condition. I do a lot with mine, but the best part is cooking. It'll go through meat like it's made to. I suppose I can't add much to a proven knife, KA-BAR earned it's points, but I'll say it's fantastic. Based on old ones I've seen(it's basically the same as the ones they were making the whole time) I expect it to outlive me. It'd only need a new handle wrap if that happened to be needed in decades. The blade could probably be sharpened to where it's not usable, but that'd take a lot of use. Great knife. Be careful using it to cook(lol, clipping yourself isn't the best), but I suppose that's not the most common use of it. It's great for hacking away at stuff and for sure will hurt people as much as the mil versions or be a good one for animal attacks. Works for pretty much everything I need to cut.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best knife I've ever had.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Grade A+
*by G***Y on May 13, 2026*

I've been collecting knives for 55 years and have hundreds of them. For most of that time I've only bought USA made with the occasional European made knife, Germany, Italy, and Spain produce outstanding examples. I did stay with Cold Steel when they moved their manufacturing overseas because I understood why, plus let's face it across the board Cold Steel is hard to beat. Anyway the past 2 years I've gone on a trip of sorts and have been buying cheaper Chinese made knives, along with the occasional European made knives. FYI take a look at the Spanish and Italian made knives, some of them are amazing. Glock knives rock too. I have actual test equipment that I have been using to test knives durability, hardness etc. for over 50 years as well. I can honestly say the Chinese knives for the most part have tested well BUT I don't have the equipment to verify if a knife that says it is a spiffy AEB-L blade for instance, actually is, or a cheap Chinese copy of that steel. I have however, received knives that were listed as an outstanding steel in the Amazon listing, that were actually made from Chinese garbage. I study alloys all the time and recently read an article about a now defunct knife company who were forced to admit they were substituting cheap Chinese steel for American 154CM steel. So from this point forward I will only be buying USA made knives again. I'm telling you all of this because I wanted you, my fellow consumers, to understand that I rate knives on what they are. An American or European made Grade A knife and Chinese made Grade A knife are NOT the same. In my mind a Chinese made knife is a 1/2 ton pickup and American and European made knives are a 200 ton dumptruck where quality is concerned. So this review is for an American made Ka-Bar and it will be judged accordingly. Please note: I have never found the need to baton a knife while camping etc. so don't do so in testing. I always carry a camp axe and always will. The fit, finish, and quality of materials used is excellent. This is one of the iconic military issue Ka-Bar knives. I have quite a few Ka-Bar knives including the Space Force model. (I can't decide if that one is truly ugly or cool), so I have tested many, many Ka-Bar knives over the years. This knife toes the line perfectly. I still have a Ka-Bar purchased in the 1970s, the 4th knife I ever owned, and it has never failed me. What I really want to talk about with this knife, since I know for a fact its performance is a given, is the looks of this knife. Everything is perfect and beautiful. This knife LOOKS like a knife should in my eyes. Plus the quality is amazing. Everything is the best it can be. I feel like what I paid for this quality is a bargain. The sheath material could be a little thicker but I'm not worried about it falling apart or anything. This knife is now front and center in my knife display, but I also know that without hesitation I could take this knife out in the woods and it would come back having done it's job well. Grumpy old guy proud seal of approval!
