On the new one the hammer is too high and the bottom two sheets hang and do not staple unless I am very careful. The stapler still worked, but had scratches. I did not send back because I desperately needed it, but Swingline could do better about their packaging. There was ZERO tape holding this box together. Now with a strong pen light look down inside the throat of the stapler. You are looking at the area where the staple cartridge meets the staple feed throat. Look to see if there are spent staples that are stuck. If you do see staples or parts of staples. Then you will need a long nose set of pliers. With the pliers carefully reach inside the throat and remove the spent staples. Next plug youe stapler in. Do not put the staple carridge in. With a piece of paper make the stapler attemt to staple the paper. Does this 4 or 5 times. Now look at your paper. Does it still show holes?? If not, then put in the staple cartridge.
