They are firmly attached onto the book. Also, they don't really twist. The sheets of some blocks sometimes tend to tilt/twist while attached as the dented part (that holds the sheet in place) is very fragile, causing the sheet in question show itself out a bit when the block is closed, which is very annoying and might cause damage to the edges of the sheet. Not on this one. I would say its cover it is flexible, but not wobbly. I DID like the size and the quality of the paper, but I've not tried it yet as I bought it for a workshop in June. (Bought last but 1 week of May.) I'm also unimpressed that there is little to NO information in English about the sketchbook - it's all in Chinese. If a company is selling to British people, I'd think they could at least put the important information on the inside cover. In English. Otherwise you'd have to scroll back to find your purchase on Amazon to find out that info. And if that sketchbook stops being made - you've got no hope!
