## Description

Growing Up God's Way is a colorful, fully illustrated book available as separate versions for boys and girls. It is intended for children approaching or experiencing puberty, typically represented by the 10-14 years old age range. The artwork has been specially produced for the book and includes accurate biological drawings as well as cartoon illustrations to keep the young reader interested. Most importantly of all, the Bible is the constant reference point, so that what the Bible has to say about the matters dealt with is always front and center. The result is that this book conveys essential biblical ethical teaching on sex and relationships, as well as the facts about puberty. For example, here's an extract from the teaching on the chapter on Physical Intimacy : It might seem attractive to live in a world where there are no laws. (Of course it would mean that your parents would never be able to tell you that you were doing something wrong!) But have you ever thought what would happen if there were no laws about how we should drive a car? The laws of the road make it safe for us to drive. If there were none, many more people on the road would get injured and driving would be a very frightening experience. God has given us a law regarding how we relate to the opposite sex in sexual intimacy. This law is the seventh of the Ten Commandments: 'You shall not commit adultery' (Exodus 20:14). From this verse and other passages in the Bible, we learn that all sexual activity outside marriage is wrong. The word adultery means either being married and experiencing sexual intimacy with someone who is not your wife, or experiencing sexual intimacy with someone else's wife. In the New Testament, God warns us to 'flee from sexual immorality' (1 Corinthians 6:18). The term 'sexual immorality' includes any sexual activity that is not between a husband and his wife. The fact that God has given us a specific command to keep sexual intimacy for marriage shows how important God considers sexual intimacy to be. The husband and wife are important to Him, their marriage is important to Him, and the new life that may result from sexual intimacy is important to Him. God's law about sexual intimacy is for our safety and well-being – it protects us, it protects marriage, and it protects young life.

Review: I had ordered another recommended Christian series that read more like Masters and Johnson ... - I had ordered another recommended Christian series that read more like Masters and Johnson for teens. I understand every parent has to choose what is right for their child, but those books were unnecessarily graphic in my opinion. So I began to searching for something that I felt was more age appropriate, simple, easy to read, and incorporated moral choices. This book was perfect. It is very age appropriate, although some of the content may not be suitable for a nine or ten year-old (although the reading level is probably fourth grade). Age 11 and up can easily handle this content, and in some ways I wish it were a little more detailed for the 11-13 age range. It is hard to find a book with just the right amount of detail, but overall I was thankful I found this book. It is a great start. Of course, read the book first, but I think compared to most of the similar books on the market, this one is tactful, conservative, and fairly watered down. Two things to note for those concerned about graphic content: there is one paragraph on intercourse that is pretty straight forward, as well as a page on erections and wet dreams. FYI.
Review: Great book - The bad: it has faint nods towards a woman's role being the old cook, clean, raise the kids, but not so much that I felt it was worth even noting with my son. The good: our son is going into third grade. For those saying good for thirteen and up, your kids know more than you're realizing! If you want to be the authority on this topic, you need to talk with them before their friendsention anything if at all possible. We did it based on psychologists recommending talking with kids two years before you think they'll hear about it because that's when their friends will over share. We let our son read up until the dating portion. We gave him sticky notes to mark where he had questions and then we discussed all of those together after he read. It was wonderful. I loved how the book tied everything back to Biblical principles, especially as to why we keep the information and our bodies private and respectful.

I’m so glad I came across the other reviews of this book. It helped me decide to purchase it for my kid. I had purchased and returned a couple of books on this touchy subject and they were awful! They were too explicit and I did not feel comfortable letting my child see it. He is 11.5. This book on the other hand talks about puberty and all the things that go with it and it was very well written. It restated all of our beliefs as Christians. I can read this with my son without being uncomfortable. I would highly recommend this book.
