There is a vent at the back of the smoker toward the bottom chamber that comes into the smoker about a quarter of an inch. The circular disc (or tray) is held up by that vent. I have not used my smoker yet as I won't have my bees until the end of March. **Q: What are the two valve looking things for?** A: I believe what your talking about is the 2 front feeders..
