I have had one for over 20 years.. Give it a try, I am sure you will love it.. **Q: What is the outside diameter of the tube?** A: 1.75 inches diameter of the tube. 3.75inches diameter of the green collector top **Q: It doesn't look like it could possibly read accurately since the collection tank is so large. How could it be accurate when most gauges are small?** A: The large collection opening at the top is consistent with other rain gauges I've seen. The large size makes it easy to read from my patio door, I like it. **Q: I feel slightly stupid asking this but I am not understanding how to read this rain gauge. The mark that is 1 is actually 4 inches.** A: The top of the rain gauge is wider than the column. This makes the column easier to read. If the '1' mark is actually at 4 inches above the bottom. It means that the area that the collects the rain is 4x the area of the column. I have this gauge and I think it is fairly accurate and works well.
