However, after a breaking in period, these are fairly comfortable shoes. I work in the garden a lot but have problems with foot and heel pain so need shoes with good support (why I like Teva). These have good arch/foot support, good traction, are waterproof. Only downside, they are a little loose in the ankle, as some other reviewers noted, but seem to hold foot in place well enough. Were tight at first but wearing thinner socks help and the shoes have loosened up a little. Thought they wouldn't work at first but like them now. I do not have foot/heel pain after wearing them. I don't think it's fair to judge a shoe totally by fit as everyone's feet are different, so keep in mind this is just my particular fit. They seem narrower in the tow box than hiking/trail shoes I normally buy, a bit bigger in the heal as I'm experiencing some heal slip so have experimented with the different ways to ties shoes for that, length of size is same as shoes I buy in same size. Good support and fit - feel very stable when trekking off-road on uneven, rocky surfaces. Heavy duty sole bed with a crazy good traction pattern - plus, they make me a little bit taller ;) My first order was for a size 10. Although my foot measures a 9.5, I have always ordered a half size larger in athletic shoes and boots. However, my feet were swimming in the size 10. Living in CA, I don't want to double up in thick socks just to keep a pair of hikers on my feet. I promptly ordered the hiker in a 9.5 and they were a perfect fit right out of the box - no breaking in required - went out on a hike, which included an off-road run with my Dobe - didn't take the hikers off until bed time - they were just that comfortable! Love the black color (hides the dirt), and the red stitching and blue accents are just enough to add a little pizazz and style. The only negative thing I can report was when it came time to return the size 10 hikers back to the seller in the UK. The USPS fee was almost as much as the hikers themselves! It didn't make sense to send them back, so I contacted a friend who wears a larger shoe than I, and to make a long story short, they fit her, she loves them, so I gave them to her! More satisfaction this way than only receiving a quarter back on a refund once the shipping fee is factored in.
