The one I currently have is too fast on the first speed.** A: Yes. It definitely has a slow speed. It has a speed arrow that allows speeds from 1-10. It will give you many speeds to choose from. I love this machine. **Q: Are the gears metal or plastic?** A: Plastic. There is a picture of the gears (busted) within the ratings. Plastic is quieter but it is cheaper engineering solution and you sacrifice durability. Honestly it will hard to find a retail mixer with metal gears. This is a decent LOW duty/LOW power hand mixer, i.e. cake mix, light batters, single batch of cookies. **Q: Two questions: 1, Where is this mixer manufactured? It used to be in the US. 2 What is the wattage?** A: The wattage is 108. 120 volts X 0.9 amps= 108 Watts **Q: I keep buying hand mixers and the second beater does not stay in. Does anyone know if they have this problem?** A: Every mixer I have ever owned, will do that…if you do not put the right beater in first. You just have to look at the markings and the beaters themselves.
