The diagnostic ability is with the user in most case. HOWEVER after saying that one does have to ask if your using it for any special medical purpose other than to listen to breath sounds, basic heart sounds, inter abdominal functioning, blood pressure. Just as there are some special things you would want a stethoscope to have if are a cardiologist and need a stethoscope to give you better sounds and picking up high and low frequencies, or if working with pregnant women and need one that is more sensitive for inter- abdominal listening there are some specialty needs that vet processes have of some that are made a bit differently. I have a littman cardiology 4, but found myself working as an equine vet tech, and needed something that i wouldnt be upset if it broke or got lost at work, while still being sensitive enough for me to do ICU checks on the horses without questioning what I am hearing. This stethoscope works great for both, even over the noise of the barn fans. If you need something lightweight and cost effective, but works well, get this one. Note it does have a pediatric bell, if you cant hear make sure you have set your stethoscope to the correct bell before saying you cant hear from it.
