Highly functional. Feature rich. No useless "filler features." I like it! *by B***. on Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2019* For those who don't have time to read my entire review, here is the short version:I really like and recommend this hub.My opinion is based on the excellent features it has, as well as the useless features they intelligently chose to leave out.This hub is feature-rich with the latest tech standards, yet compact and easily transported. It lets me connect a small, portable HDMI monitor (or a hotel room HDTV) as a second display. The built-in USB C cable which folds into the handle of the hub is a really useful bonus feature if you carry the hub around a lot. With this handle, you can use your own carabiners to attach it to bags, purses, and belt loops.One thing that confused me at first was the fact that the USB C port on the hub wouldn't power or even talk to either of my external USB C NVMe SSDs. It turned out that this is because I incorrectly assumed the USB C port on the hub was a full spec data port. I thought it would let me connect an external SSD or USB C compatible display to it. This misunderstanding was my own fault though. I should have read the product information more carefully.So, I'll clarify this tidbit for anyone else who might be confused. The open USB C port on this hub is solely a power input port. It is there to help power all the devices which are attached to the hub. It doesn't work for transferring data. Personally, I think "power input port" would be a more accurate label for this port than calling it "USB C," but that's just my 2 cents.Once I understood the C port was really a power input port, I connected my external USB C NVMe SSDs by plugging them into the hub's USB 3 ports using high-speed USB type C to type A conversion cables. As you would expect, everything started working perfectly as soon as I started using the hub correctly. The change even resulted in higher-than-expected file transfer rates to my external SSDs. Seeing this definitely put a grin on my face.Pros:1. Excellent compact form factor with an open handle. I like clipping the hub to my small laptop bag using a carabiner attached to the handle. You could also hang it on a peg board or a nail in the wall above your desk to save some workspace.2. Permanently attached cable for plugging the hub into your computer. Like our heads, it's difficult to lose something that's attached.3. Cable stores securely in the handle, so it isn't just flopping around to potentially get damaged.4. Solid construction. Many hubs feel oddly lightweight, which gives the impression they are fragile. This one has a slight heft which suggests durability and excellent construction.5. It doesn't take up space by adding obsolete ports almost nobody uses like VGA or USB 2. This is part of the reason it is so compact. It is also one of the things I really like about this hub. There is no wasted space.6. The USB ports transfer data at higher speeds than others I've tried. According to the tiny print on the back of the box, the USB transfer rate is up to 5 Gbps, which I believe is actually USB 3.1 speed. That means these "USB 3.0" ports may secretly be 5 times as fast as the spec for 3.0 ports. The ports are described as 3 x USB 3.0 ports in their feature list. Even the color coding of the ports indicates USB 3.0. (They're bright blue instead of the aquamarine color used for 3.1 ports.) But they actually seem to transfer at USB 3.1 speeds. This undocumented speed boost is very useful if you are regularly moving a lot of large files between internal and external NVMe SSDs like I am. Check my photos for a screenshot of the file copy speed.7. The HDMI port can output 4K (3840x2160) resolution. It operates at a 30Hz refresh rate but higher refresh rates really only matter for high-speed twitch gaming where a millisecond faster screen update can be critical to success. Even feature films update the screen slower than 30Hz. You should also make sure your HDMI cable is rated to handle 4K resolution.8. This hub has a "real" gigabit ethernet port which isn't detected as only 100 megabits in network management utilities and network switch reports. WiFi is great for portable connections, but I prefer a solid, blazing fast wired connection when I'm sitting at a desk. This full speed wired port makes much better use of my gigabit Internet connection, too.9. I like not having to carry a separate SD card reader and a micro SD to SD card size converter. This hub has slots for both sizes. There is a lot to be said in favor of carrying one device which serves many different purposes. These card reader slots seem pretty fast, too.10. This hub is comparatively inexpensive for everything it can do.Cons:1. Like others I've tried, this hub doesn't have a "real" USB C data port for connecting high-speed USB C devices to the hub. In my own limited experience, this appears to be a common limitation of most USB C hubs being sold.2. The handle is nice, but it does add to the length of the otherwise very compact hub. A smaller "attachment ring" would shrink the hub a bit more and still allow it to be clipped to things with a carabiner. If they could find a way to keep the built-in cable and the cable storage but somehow shrink the handle at the same time, it would be perfect.Suggestions for improvement:1. I wish this hub (or perhaps an upgraded model) had one or more "real" USB C data ports for connecting USB C devices like SSDs and displays. This hub was surprisingly fast when using the "normal" USB ports to connect my SSDs. Still, I'd love to see a couple of "real" type C ports added in future versions. I'd happily trade one of USB 3 ports to get a couple of USB C data ports.2. A second 4K HDMI port would also be a welcome upgrade. It would be even better if they could reach 60Hz refresh at the same time.3. I would also like to see the power input port changed from a USB C port to a traditional barrel-type power plug which uses a real power brick. This would eliminate any potential confusion for people (like me) who don't read the product description carefully enough and then try to use the "USB C" port on the hub as a real USB C data port.In summary, after a little initial confusion on my part, I figured out the right way to use the hub with my laptop and immediately fell in love with it. It's really fast, keeping pace with USB 3.1 ports. It has a great combination of features packed into a single compact device which makes it the perfect traveling companion. I like the built-in short connector cord. Even with the weak power coming out of my laptop USB C port, I was easily able to get the hub working at really high-performance levels. I even like the look of this hub. Its warmer gray/silver finish looks richer than my previous light silver colored hubs.Everything considered I like this hub enough to give it 5 stars. My initial confusion was due to my own incorrect assumptions combined with the power output limitations of my laptop. Now that I've sorted that, I'm very happy with this hub. Thanks! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really good value *by H***L on Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2019* I've literally went through 100 different product pages of this type before reaching the conclusion of purchasing this one.A lot of the others of its kind either lacked a port that I needed or had ports that I didn't need at all.I have a Macbook Pro and I'm sure fellow owners can sympathize with the limited number of ports, nor does it have an ethernet port for stable internet connection, and no HDMI port on top of that.Well, this product has them all, along with a slick and ergonomic design. All ports are where the should be for minimizing cables overlapping.The only con I see with this product (and all the other similar products) is that it only has 3 USB A ports. I just don't know why this is the way it is most of these products. I've only found one product with 5 USB ports but it had no ethernet port and had a DVI port which no one really uses anymore, along with 2 SD slots (another thing I really don't need, and definitely don't need two of it). I have a lot of little devices that I'd like to connect to my laptop while freeing up the rest for more important TB3 connections such as my eGPU and TB3 SSDs.I would like to invest in a dock like product with even more ports, but those have many ports that I don't need and do not warrant their costs ($100-$200).Another minute flaw is that the device surface is curved on both sides so it doesn't sit flat on the desk, which makes it more likely to shift around. It's not a big deal, but it is a detail that couldn't go unnoticed.Overall, with its utility, design, and cost is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for such products. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice Design, well made *by J***D on Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2019* The DBSoars 8-in-1 USB hub is well made and works very well. I had no problems with any of the connections. The hub is able to transfer photos from the memory cards to any of the USB 3.0 ports or from one USB 3.0 to another 3.0 port or from any port to the computer. The HDMI port will duplicate or extend the display on a second monitor.
