Review: Wonderful continuation of this amazing series! - This is the 28th volume in the Black Butler series and is a great addition to this series. While I have loved this whole series, the last couple books have been very intense and very awesome! This review contains spoilers for those who haven’t read vol 27. In the last volume we found out why Ciel isn’t really Ciel and how that all happened. We learned how it is possible for the real Ciel to even be alive. And we watch as Ciel (the Ciel we’ve known as Ciel) loses everything to his older brother and is forced to flee. However, younger Ciel is no pushover and will find a way to take back what he believes to be rightfully his. I was really impressed with how a lot of storylines from previous volumes came together in this volume. Of course, the illustration is absolutely amazing as always. The story had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and I am desperate to read the next volume!!! This volume isn’t quite as dark as vol 27, but it is still fairly dark. Overall, I really really enjoyed this and am so excited to see where the next book in the series takes us. This is one of my top five favorite manga series; the others are Fullmetal Alchemist, Vinland Saga, Ancient Magus Bride, and Berserk...okay I really loved Hellsing too but that one is done and I love The Girl from the Otherside as well. I guess my point is, this is a long running series that has remained really really solid and I am still loving it.
Review: a bit of a relief in plot direction - I am reviewing as a long time Black Butler fan who especially fell in love with the volumes from about 6 through 21 - that whole sweep of relentlessly beautiful, dark, and funny arcs that seemed to always hit the perfect notes. I miss Doll terribly, Snake's translations of his pets never gets old, Sascha was my favorite grim reaper … I'm just a pathetic fan who adores all these characters and storytelling. I read the paperbacks, not the online chapters, so I'm always a bit behind. I review from this point of view. As a fan who was very dismayed by the rise of the twin plot, I was very concerned this was too committal and that it would overwhelm and ruin the story. This volume did a lot to give me hope - I feel that the explanation and development was more on the satisfying side. For fans who have given up hope on the series due to this change, I would suggest reading this volume and seeing if it helps nudge things in the right direction. I get that manga authors end up in a tightrope act when a controversial plot decision is made - is it best to change direction to appease the fans or does that make things even more confusing? Additionally, when does Black Butler start heading into endgame - are we heading there already or is it still far away? So all I can do as a reader is to hope the series can keep up the quality that has made it so famous and beloved. This volume had some humor, cute parts, and good direction. It looks like something I can still get on board with.

Love this manga series. It was unwrapped so I don't know if it was the new one I ordered but it was in good condition.
