We have had another lock of the same model for eight years and got a new lock for our front door, so we have the same model on the front and back. Setting it up is straight-forward, although you should download a full installation guide from the web. The abilities of this lock are numerous. You can change the beginning programming code to something memorable or keep what's provided. If you mess up with the codes, you can do a factory reset that will set the codes back to the originals at any time. (It's a good idea to keep a copy of whatever codes you use in a safe place). You can add, I think, up to 30 codes for different people, and the SmartThings app will keep track of which person opened the door when. It comes with a backup key if the electronics fail at any time. We created separate codes for the household members, as well as some temporary codes to give out to trusted people if they have to come to the house when we're away. And then any of those codes given out can be deleted as needed so they can't be used again. The WiFi app using a SmartThings hub is great - we can lock or unlock the door from anywhere, so if any friend calls us when we're away, we can let them in the door at any time if we feel they should have temporary access. It works with Alexa, so we have routines that will automatically lock the door at bedtime if we forget. When we get back from grocery shopping we can unlock the door before carrying all the bags to the door, so there's no fumbling for a key or typing a number while carrying a bunch of things. We just open the door. There are a few to choose from, depending on your needs. This one uses Z-wave wireless to talk to a HUB that supports Z-Wave. (Hubs centralize your smart home automation and have advanced capabilities that non HUB automation may not provide.)I have a Samson Smartthings HUB to control my house smart activities.The Pros:The lock is beautiful. Very eligant and was the style I was looking for.Schlage locks are known for the best in class security.Uses Z-Wave and works with Smartthings hub. (Z-wave is low power so batteries last longer)Easy to install. It simply replaced my previous deadbolt. I spent no more than 15 minutes installing.Connected to my Smartthings HUB with no issues.Add and remove codes remotelyYou can unlock and lock the door remotely, on a schedule, or some event that your HUB handles.You can have lights or other devices turn on or off when lock is locked or unlocked if you want (controled by HUB).Con:Cost.Instructions for connecting to Smartthings HUB are to minimal. Now when someone enters a code to enter the door I am notified on my phone and the name I associated with the code is displayed, so you could know which family member, worker, etc just entered.I would recommend this lock, I will be buying more. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stylish modern upgrade to any front door *by on Reviewed in the United States May 8, 2025* I wanted a smart lock solution for our vacation home and after a lot of searching this one fit the bill. We have a major security provider and I wanted a smart lock that would integrate with their system's control module and our smart home hub. Schlage's z wave makes it very universal to communicate with multiple systems but confirm compatibility first. The second reason for this was Schlage states this deadbolt is bump resistant and it can be used with an old fashioned key. The piece of mind of using a key in the event of battery loss, frozen weather, etc. is a huge plus in my book. Another great feature is the built in alarm, so even if the main system goes down this can be a backup for the front door. My wife loved the overall look and the fit/finish is top notch and matches our home decor exactly. Installation was easy and we added secure deadbolt striker plates with 3" screws. Make sure to align everything before cutting (measure 3 times, cut/drill 1 time) and putting it is is easy. It uses standard batteries which is also a big plus. After 8 months the batteries are still going strong. The key pad looks great and once you know how to turn on the light it is easy to use in the dark. You can program in multiple codes so you can keep track of who is opening the lock.Pros- Looks great, heavy and good quality frame and components.- locking mechanism is solid and operates smooth (but noisy as others have noted)- can operate as a smart lock or a dumb lock or anything in-between (can be locked from inside with a mechanical dial)- battery life is long, even with a month of below freezing temps the same set of batteries is going strong 8 months later- integrates with multiple smart systems. I can geo-fence the lock to unlock when I am in the driveway, remotely lock/unlock, and control from my primary alarm system provider's app and base station- physical keys work perfect- lighted keypad for night, but you need to know how to turn them on- supports multiple pins for different users, can be used with smart systems to know who is coming/going- easy to install and setup, had it installed into a brand new door in just under an hour and programmed in 30 minCons- locking/unlocking is loud (the motor that operates the mechanism), this can be a plus if your want audio assurances but it can be jarring late at night/early in the morning (but you can use a key or the knob if you want to be quiet)- deadbolt alignment is an absolute must, any resistance or alignment that causes rubbing or binding will make the locking/unlocking problematic, this is why we installed the heavier duty deadbolt striker plate with deadbolt channel- z-wave is more open source, however you have to take the cover off to put the lock into paring mode which makes hacking it very hard to do without physical access to the back cover- keypad night light isn't intuitive to use, press the Schlage logo, we mitigated this with smart light-bulbs on the porchOverall, we are supper happy with this lock. My wife loves the look and feel, I love the security features and reliability. I highly recommend this as it can be used with keys and without smart feature just in case. It stays connected to my alarm system and smart home hubs without any issues.
