When it arrived, I sat down and read it through in one sitting. I believe this was a mistake.Taken individually, most of the poems are pretty good. Some of them ache with genuine feeling. There's a fervor and strength of emotion in some that can just about knock you over--and, of course, there's some of those fantastic lines that straighten out your spine and say, "Pay attention, this is going to be good."Unfortunately, as I read through the volume, I got a steady sense of... sameness. All that bombastic emotion is fine, but it felt like Ms. Siehl was pacing over the same territory again and again. Not that many great volumes of poetry haven't had a singular topic; the complaint here is more that this poet seems to be stuck in an expressive rut, ruminating on the same topics without the benefit of being able to express her feelings on them in varied or interesting ways. By the end of the volume, I was almost rolling my eyes with the sensation of, "Yes, you've said this already, and you've said it in just this way. Please do something else."I was unsurprised when I came to the 'about the author' at the end and saw how very young she is. She's got a talent, of course, but it's raw and over-reliant on ostentation imagery. If you’ve checked out the tumblr writing scene then chances are you’ve come across a poem or two (or maybe just a quote) by the incredibly talented and equally wonderful Caitlyn Siehl. I haven’t seen a person on this website that just radiates kindness and loveliness off the screen the way she does and that carries off to her writing. Which by the by is a trip you’ll be thankful you took. Her words are raw and so painfully human that you need to do your soul a favour and buy this book. Right now.This collection contains a combination of old and new work which while reading will feel like your gut just took a beating and your heart just got hugged, fiercely.Recommended for those who enjoy beautiful words. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A break from Kapur *by S***A on Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2017* This was a lovely book of poetry that sometimes danced on the edge of cliches, but managed to hold its own. Some poems stood out more than others, and I found myself dog earing those pages to return to later.
