Once I used these a bit I started to feel really confident in my measurements. The individual sizes with stop locks and calibration barrels make this set a win. I use them in hobby engine building to check piston diameters, valve shim thickness, dial bore gauge setup, and more. I have a basic micrometer stand to hold them while measuring things, it makes the process easy. The locks are a major component, their precision is ideal for repeated checks. Before this I was using a large Starrett caliper with step down adapters and no lock. The adapters were cumbersome, which I can deal with, but the measuring barrel could be easily disturbed, which made repeated checks impossible. So I bought these Shars micrometers as a replacement. I am aware they are not at the same quality level as Starrett, but for my use they are terrific. I have a couple of other Shars tools so I felt good buying these. I'm quite satisfied with them.
