It holds an edge well, easy to sharpen, chop’s small saplings, debarks trees great and digs holes when needed. This knife is a beast and by far the best fixed full tang knife I’ve ever purchased. The price point is amazing. I don’t head to the back country with out it. Update: it’s now 3/2023 and this knife keeps on giving. I strip bark and branches every day with this knife. I keep it stropped and sharp. It performs like new. I would like a sales territory in the Midwest to sell this knife. I could make a killing. I’ve now purchased 4 Oerla Brand Knives. Will it stay put until you pull, or is it loose?** A: Oerla uses cheap Kydex, they hold fine until you use them in a hot environment. Mine started losing the knife when I was in Colorado in 100 ish weather. Also if you leave it in a hot car the Kydex completely deforms and the sheath becommes unusable. I contacted customer service and they said they deform at 135° F. In 90+ weather a car can achieve that while you're grocery shopping. **Q: Is it legal in Illinois?** A: No the blade has to be under 3 inches in Illinois **Q: Is this legal to carry in Illinois?** A: You need to google that information about your particular state law. I live in Kentucky where it is legal. The laws usually depend on blade size. **Q: The edge of the knife I received is over 4” long, which is illegal to carry in my state. Is this slight difference in blade length common?** A: Google your state blade restrictions and no in Arizona if 21 you can carry any length any closure type. There are no blade restrictions of any type in Arizona if 21 and no felony. It also needed to meet several other criteria, the most important of which is that it be a “multi-role tactical” knife. Granted this is considered a camp/survival knife but it also will serve well as a tac knife. For those who are wondering if the serations at the top serve a purpose, YES. This is no ordinary knife… this knife can double over as a a spear tip for hunting. Just lash it via the holes in the tang and you now have a razor sharp spear tip. The serrated spine holds on to what you “poke”. I have gotten several compliments on this knife and everyone LOVES the utility of its design once I explain. For the price you CAN NOT beat this knife. It’s easy to EDC on my tac belt and it fits well enough to conceal if you need to. I’m 6”, 190Lbs and fairly fit so I can only speak for myself.
