I used 2000mAh CR123A batteries which are slightly larger but last waaaaay longer. Only downside is that the crank no longer works but that wasn't an issue for me and the light lasts for quite some time now. For folks having issues replacing the power cable it isn't unique. It's a standard USB 5v 5.5mm DC cable - Amazon sells a 3 pack for under $8. **Q: Will this charge my I phone?** A: I dunno about iPhone, but I recently tested the hand crank to try and charge my Samsung Galaxy S9, and confirmed it DOES charge it. NOT MUCH though. I hooked up the cable between the two devices, made sure the phone's screen was off, then cranked for about a minute at what I would consider moderate-to-fast speed, and before/after cranking it went up from 22% to 24% charge. I'm not fit, so I was pretty tired, dunno how long I could have kept that up, but was good to know that in a REAL EMERGENCY, it would be POSSIBLE (though difficult) to charge my phone with this hand crank.
