Rice is an agricultural product, and basmati comes from only one area in the world: the foothills of the Himalayas. This area is in India and the partitioned country, Pakistan. To ensure you're getting authentic basmati, not "Texmati" or any other brand from the U.S. (such as Lundberg), look on the package to see if it's imported from India or Pakistan. If you're unsure about whether or not you'll like it, a brand called Carolina Rice is authentic basmati. it comes in a 2-lb. bag. It's not from the Carolinas, which is what I thought when I first saw the name. It's sold in any grocery store, and some grocers sell Tilda brand, which also is sold in a small quantity (I forget, but it's less than 2 lbs. These two brands taste very good. I think this Daawat Traditional is quite good, but if you're interested in large quantities, try Royal brand. It's packed in a huge zip-lock plastic bag, then that's placed into a burlap bag.
