The metal hook is narrow enough to even poke through the top of the last banana. Bonus: it comes apart and packs flat when it's time to pack up the kitchen, and it's lightweight while still being sturdy. No complaints. I've had mine for a few months now, and it's just as sturdy as the day I bought it.
