There's a distribution warehouse in my small city and now there's a massive gazillion square foot warehouse about 20 miles away. Not sure if it's up and running yet, not that it matters for this purpose. I plugged it in and there was instant heat. There was a slight smell but that burnt off in a matter of minutes. I've picked it up to move it and the safety switch immediately turned it off. I'm happy with my decision. Like most reviews though, I wish there were temperature setting. I am guessing that you are worried about safety, so I will address the issue of safety: A safer heater would be an oil-filled electric with a timer and a thermostat and that has three levels: 500, 1000, 1500Watts; why is this type of heater safer? Because they dissipate heat across a much wider surface area and they are cooler to the touch - but at the same time, have more heat coming out of them on mid or high level settings; DeLonghi is one such manufacturer / product; these heaters will typically get a UL rating, so look for that also; **Q: Amazon, would you please re release this heater unit with a 250w mode and a 600w mode? It will cost more but it will be worth it!** A: No! It’s perfect at 500 watts. 250 watts is way too low and 600 watts usually trips the circuit breaker in older homes. Don’t change anything Amazon. **Q: I only want to heat my bedroom at night and save on electricity by not heating the rest of the apartment. Would this be good for that?** A: It should work depending on the size of your room and the temperature. My room is ~12’ by 10’ and 9’ ceilings and it works just fine I usually wake up and turn it off in the middle of the night because I get too warm. I can put this under, or on my desk, without risking my papers (or legs) bursting into flames. The heat it puts out is pretty amazing, so you need to keep everything at least 12 to 18 inches from it’s face, or it will get blazing hot in no time. It only draws 500 Watts, so I don’t have to worry that much about it overloading my circuit, like even a 1500 Watt iron or blow dryer can. Usually people that are going to use this on or under their desk will already have lots of things plugged in. The appearance is awesome. I’m a big fan of retro stuff (probably because I grew up in the 1960’s), and the plain grill works for me. I also like the single switch, which is located on the back, out of sight. All you see is the clean lines of the side case, and the grill. No temperature control, but if I want heat, I want heat. When it’s warm enough, I turn it off. Easy peasy. I tested the bottom safety switch, and of course it works perfectly. If the heater gets knocked over, it immediately shuts off. This is because if the airflow is blocked on one side or the other from tipping over, the heating element would get red hot and could possibly start a fire. No chance of any accidents like that happening with this safety switch. I also love how small it is. For the amount of heat it puts out, it’s pretty incredible, and I can put it in a suitcase if I want to travel with it, or even a briefcase if I want to take it to work.
