This was a replacement for my old ceiling fan. The installation does require DIY skills to install, but nothing too difficult. I mounted the TD-100X fan in my attic on one of the rafters and electrically wired into my existing switched circuit in bathroom. The fan components make it easy to install, since the fan disassembles from the mounting bracket. Caution that installer pay attention to which side of fan is the exhaust side, look for arrow on label before disassembly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not as quiet as you may have heard (56 dB @ 1m) *by R***R on May 31, 2016* Not bad, but not near as quiet as you may have heard. Unfortunately, Soler & Palau only offers an excuse at why they don't measure their fans sound profiles in their brochure. Unfortunately, this means you can't educate yourself before you buy their product. I took measurements at 1 meter from the units centerline using a Radioshack decibel meter. The low setting registered 56 decibels, while the high setting registered 63 decibels. That is certainly not as loud as centrifugal fans, but it isn't exactly quiet. It in fact ties this fan from Apollo on the low settings: Apollo Horticulture 4" Inch 190 CFM Inline Duct Fan with Built in Variable Speed Controller for Ventilation. The reason I give this fan I higher score than the Apollo is that it uses a 2-speed motor rather than a variable resistor control that can potentially cause fire, and this fan moves far more air on its low setting even though the noise is equal. The S&P fan can be controlled with a variac to decrease its speed and noise with out any buzzing. Construction of the S&P fan was slightly better than the Apollo, but the Apollo was surprisingly built pretty well too. A final note is that the S&P was mainly air noise, while there was an annoying frequency from motor whine on the Apollo fan. I would love to test a silent model of the S&P, but the more than double price is currently a bit ridiculous for a 4" inline fan. ### ⭐⭐⭐ quiet *by M***T on August 30, 2013* This replaced a $25 "100cfm" 4" inline fan which wasnt cutting it. the TD-100X draws 18W on low speed and 32W on high (The $25 inline drew 12W). this one is undoubtedly more efficient design, pulling more power but also pushing a lot more CFMs. docking it one star because it cant be controlled by the usual type of inline fan speed controller. i need to research what type of speed controller does work with it.
